In 1980 he co-founded the Washington, D.C.-based lobbying firm Black, Manafort & Stone, along with principals Roger J. Stone. And Charles R. Black Jr. It was renamed Black, Manafort, Stone and Kelly (BMSK) & associates, in 1984 after Peter G. Kelly was recruited.
