María de la Soledad Teresa O’Brien born on September 19, 1966 also known as Soledad O’Brien is an American broadcast journalist and executive producer. She has been the host for Matter of Fact with Soledad O’Brien, which is a nationally syndicated weekly talk show produced by Hearst Television since 2016,. Maria is a chairwoman of Starfish Media Group which is a multi-platform media production company & distributor that she founded in 2013.

Maria co-anchored American Morning on CNN from 2003 – 2007, and was the anchor of morning news program Starting Point from 2012 – 2013. In 2013, Maria became special correspondent on the Al Jazeera America news program called America Tonight, and until 2015 was a correspondent on  Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel on HBO

  • Maria started her career in journalism as a medical reporter on WXKS-FM situtated in Boston because of her background as a pre-med student in college.
  • In 1991, she joined NBC News and was based in New York as a field producer for the Weekend Today and Nightly News. She worked for three years as a local reporter and bureau chief for San Francisco NBC affiliate KRON. At KRON she was the reporter for “The Know Zone.”
